Township Committee Keeps Promise to Improve Infrastructure

Mayor and Township Committee Hold the Line on Spending

The Republican-led Hillsborough Township Committee continued its aggressive capital improvement infrastructure projects while also initiating several new programs in 2023. The Township Committee dedicated $1,000,000 dollars to road paving and improvement projects for 2023. These roads were identified by the road study completed in 2022. The list of the roads that are part of the 2023 paving program are Independence Dr, John Hancock Ave, Liberty Trail, Slater Ct, Radnor Ct. and Fairfield Lane. The Amsterdam Road repaving, Phase Two, was funded by a New Jersey Department of Education grant and was completed in July. “I am dedicated to continuing theses road projects throughout the Township” stated Mayor Lipani. In addition, the pre-construction design work for the next, and final Phase Three to complete the Amsterdam Road repaving is ongoing and the repaving will be completed in 2024.

Hillsborough continued their sidewalk repair program in 2023 by completing repairs on hundreds of feet of sidewalks on Beechwood Cl, Odell Ct, Foster St, Perrine Pike, Bennett Rd, Cedarview Ct, Dunedain St, and Snowbourn Place. “This program is vital to continue to maintain the miles of sidewalks in our community” added Committeeman John Ciccarelli. The Republican-led Township Committee and Engineering Department have made significant cant progress on two other long-awaited road projects, which are ready to begin: the repaving of Falcon Road and the extension of Brown Avenue to the GSA Depot.

The Township also completed the phase one clean-up of the area known as Green Hill, which was a project to improve the drainage of and area along Route 206 that was impacted by Ida. Mayor Lipani stated that “This is and will remain a priority for the Township to find solutions address this area of need.” To that end, the Township has continued commissioning studies for the next phase of this stormwater management and drainage project. Committeeman Ciccarelli noted, “We promised to improve our local infrastructure, and these roadway and stormwater projects show that we will deliver on our promise.”

The township has acquired all the necessary easements from landowners to allow the developer of the Gateway community to repave Falcon Road from the Promenade Shopping Center to Sunnymead Rd. The Brown Avenue extension will allow a safer route for the vehicles exiting the GSA Depot (especially trucks) to enter Route 206 at the existing light at Brown Avenue. Deputy Mayor Robert Britting commented that “We are excited that these projects are now in the final stages of execution.”
